Not that fast…Last week we received a card from somebody back home. They basically asked how many converts we made already. A good question if you think about the reason for us being in Thailand. It’s not a very good question though if someone has been studying Thai for only 3 months. Learning the Thai language is going quite slow (as you can read in our last post). Of course…we really have the desire to share the Gospel with people, but we hardly can ask how to go to go the toilet if we visit someone:). So it will take some more time before we will be able to teach people from the Word. In the meantime we pray that God will use our lives to show something of Himself to the people around us. Living the Christian life and studying very hard is all we can do right now. 2 Responses to “Not that fast…”Leave a Reply |
I suppose this supporter’s card also shows how much more education is needed for people back home – whether it be more info about language study or a more realistic (and perhaps more God centered) perspective on conversion. If people back home just want to see numbers of people who’ve prayed a prayer, we can do that easily enough. But that won’t build the church in any true sense of the word
Many people back home don’t realize that although God gives breakthrough and encouragement in the first few years in a place like Isaan that true fruit comes from years of sustained work in the language and culture of this unreached people group. This is hard for anyone to grasp until they live here themselves.
We take for granted the foundations that have been laid for the Gospel in the West that every person is standing on whether they realize it or not. Who God is and what Jesus came to do are not known here.
This is a place where you come, not for a quick blast of ministry, but to lay down your very life to see eternal fruit. Keep pressing on OMF team!
