After talking about the ideal language student I read some quotes about doing language study. Just want to share some of them with you:
- To learn a foreign language is to take on a new identity. This involves being willing to become vulnerable to a degree not normally requiered in other areas of life.
- Learning Languages is like learning how to swim: it’s good to jump right in and try, but your ‘stroke’ will be improved by techniques.
- The good language learner feels that frustrations are somehow inevitable, occasionally even helpful, and that frustrations motivated and pushed them to learn harder in order to overcome them.
- Language learning involves relationships between individuals, not merely the memorization of grammer structures and the repetition of phrases.
- Those who succeed in learning a foreign language do so because they recognize that, while studying with teachers is helpful, learning from ordinary people is essential.
- The good language learner is flexible and imaginative – able to use what little they have already learned to say a lot.
