With a clear view
foto: partsnpieces We always limited ourselves to proclaiming the Gospel. So far we’ve done little in the way of social work. In a rather prosperous country like Thailand social work is possible, but certainly not always necessary. Now we have found something that helps people, is easy to do, does not create dependency and directly suppports evangelism: distributing reading glasses. We take a case of glasses with us to evangelistic activities and new Bible study groups, and take the time to help people get the right pair of glasses. Most of the time reading glasses are needed, sometimes regular ones. Because we buy the glasses for about 1 Euro a pair, the investment is not too much. It’s a great hit! I’ve never had the ambition to become an opticien. Yet at this pace, I’ll be helping more people get glasses than many opticiens. The times we have opened our case of glasses so far, about 50 people came. Almost all older people need reading glasses, but almost none of them have any. So now when we take the Gospel to a village we also take glasses. We let people read some simple Gospel stories to try out the glasses. When everybody has a pair, we read the stories together. It has helped us to grow some existing evangelistic Bible study groups, and so far to start one new one. It proved again: simple ideas are best. Leave a Reply |
