The vote buying missionary

I have an extra free evening. That’s not a reason to be glad, by the way. Since a few months I was teaching the Bible in a neighbouring village. It was a nice group. Often around 10 people showed up to hear the Bible stories. We had our meetings in the village shop, a corrugated iron shed. All passers-by could see what we were doing, and could easily join in.

But it’s over now. Why? Because I’m rumoured to have bought votes in the village head election. I admit I have strong opinions about some political issues, but that does not extend to two to me unknown candidates for village head. Yet so many people talked about it in the village that the group thought it better for me not to go there anymore.

One of the women, granny Charat, continuous to come to church faithfully. “We are living in a free country. They can be upset if they want. But I want to follow God!” When the going was easy, it was impossible to know what the attitude of the various people in the group was towards the faith. Now it has become harder, and it is clear that the seed of the Gospel already started to bear fruit in the life of granny Charat.

Yet I hope I will get the opportunity to share the whole Gospel with the others as well.
