Survey in a sub-districtSince a couple of months we’re working in the Baan Faang district . This district has a few Christians, but the majority of the more then 50,000 people are still bound by Buddhism and Animism. God has opened a wonderful door in a small village in the South West of the district. In this village there are 3 women who are Christian. We go and teach them every week! There knowledge of the Bible is very limited, but they’re very open and eager to study the Word. In the sub district where this village is located are 8 other villages. This morning I went together with another Isaan Christian to find out whether there were believers in these other 8 villages. Sadly enough we couldn’t find anybody. We asked one lady: ‘Do you know anybody who beliefs in ‘Phra Yesu’ in this village? Are there any Christians?’. She looked a bit puzzled and answerd most helpful: ‘ I don’t know anybody who’s named Yesu in this village, but I know one lady who’s called Su. Are you looking for her?’ We explained again what we came for, but her answer was pretty straight forward: ‘ I’ve no clue who Phra Yesu is and I don’t know what Christians are either’. It just struck me… Many people clearly didn’t really understand our question and in the end we found no Christians at all. We gave all the people we talked with a little booklet with some explanation. After today it’s clear that this sub district is in need of some evangelistic outreach. At the one hand it’s discouraging not to find any Christian…at the other hand it’s also encouraging to know that we can be the first people who will probably share with them about the hope we have in and through the Lord Jesus. 2 Responses to “Survey in a sub-district”Leave a Reply |
Wow its pretty awkward to hear that no-one in the district has ever heard the Gospel! Do you think you can reach ‘em, or are they opponents? Well, i’ll definitely pray for those people, and for you! Be blessed bro! You’re doing great overthere! Lots of love from your little sis
Reminds me a bit about a story I once heard.
A shoe company was preparing to send a salesman to a newly discovered island. They gave him some samples to take with him, and sent him on his way.
Upon arriving, he noticed that nobody on the island was even wearing shoes. He immediately radioed back that it was hopeless – these people don’t even wear shoes!
The company, not to be deterred, sent another salesman. Upon arriving and seeing naked feet, he immediately radioed back and said “You need to send every shoe we have in the warehouse! I’ve never seen such an opportunity!”
I’ll be praying for you
